Frequently it thinks my music files are different from machine to machine (when they're identical and haven't changed for months), so I constantly get duplicate files generated. It takes forever (and chews up some serious system resources) to scan the Music directory, and takes just at long to actually perform the sync. I couldn't believe that the sync feature.simply wasn't that good. I chose not to sync with the cloud, since I have my own server, so I configured it to sync my Music folder locally between machines. Acronis touts their world-class sycing capability, and with their online hosting features (take that, Dropbox), it's an attractive feature. I like that "Syncs" and "Backups" are different things. It's messy and very surprising for such a supposedly power-house backup suite. One machine has two entries, one for the Primary (which constantly says "Never backed up") and one for the Reserve, while another machine has a Primary item (which thankfully has a "Last backed up at." message) and entries for EVERY SINGLE RESERVE BACKUP. Instead of a single entry for the backup profile (with perhaps a discrete mention of both the Primary and Reserver backup locations), I've seen differing behavior from computer to computer. I go in every few days and manually delete a few of them.Īnother reason I think the Reserve location was an after-thought is the weird UI quirks that result from using the feature. I set the Reserve location as my file-server, but it completely wastes space doing full backups every time. The backup features for the Reserve location are extremely limited (can only do a full backup EVERY TIME, instead of just copying the same incremental/differential/whatever backup file already created.) I configured it to do an incremental backup of the system disk to the data disk, which provides a good compromise between disk space and historical backups. There is a feature to backup to one location and set a "Reserve" location, but this was thrown in almost like an after-thought.
(Not ideal for an automated backup solution to constantly fail to back up.)īacking up to two location isn't a feature. Incremental (daily) backups of all my computers' system disk to their respective data disks, also dropping a backup on my file server via SMB. It has a very clean and simple interface, which fits well in the Windows theme. I have Acronis 2012, and I really wanted it to be good.
